Boerse Stuttgart Group receives Europe's first DLT trading-and-settlement licence for an exchange group
BaFin's DLT TSS licence lets Boerse Stuttgart run Seturion, a shared settlement platform for tokenised assets that banks and brokers can plug into.
Boerse Stuttgart Group is the first European exchange group to get a DLT Trading and Settlement System licence under the EU's DLT Pilot Regime. BaFin granted it after a joint process with ESMA and the European Central Bank.
The licence is there for Seturion, the group's settlement platform for tokenised assets. It works with public and private blockchains and can settle in on-chain money or central bank money. Boerse Stuttgart's pitch to banks and brokers is up to 90% lower costs and faster settlement. Trading venues that connect can offer tokenised assets without a DLT licence of their own. flatexDEGIRO, Nasdaq, Société Générale and SG FORGE are signed up as strategic partners.
Why it matters: A bank that wants to offer tokenised assets no longer has to build or license its own DLT stack. It can connect to a regulated shared one and spend that budget elsewhere.
